BLIZZCON DAY 1

I just got back from Blizzcon. Here is everything about SC2. Enjoy.

They had around 60 computers (give or take 20) running Starcraft 2 (singleplayer and 1v1 multi). I spent 20 minutes each playing Terran and Protoss. There was absolutely no Zerg in the playable demos. There was also a presentation about the single-player Starcraft 2 which introduces the best campaign style ever for an RTS. The Game: It feels just like the original Starcraft does with an incredible facelift. It may appear otherwise from the gameplay videos released so far, but trust me when I say its still incredibly fast-paced.

Terran:
SCVs look awesome. They now have drills attached to their arms, which they use to construct buildings and mine.

MEDICS ARE BACK

Marines still have the shield upgrade. No firebats.

Reapers are constructed at a Mercenary building that is separate from the Barracks. These buildings, despite being built by you, function much like a neutral barracks in Warcraft 3. It starts off with 1 Reaper and they replenish over time (filling up at 3 or 4 I think), and when you "hire" them they train incredibly quickly. Reapers get Spider Mines, which aren't really anything like the old Spider Mines because they are energy based and not a limited amount, and they also are more like sticky mines in that you drop them on something and they blow up after 3 seconds. They appeared to be just as devastating as the old spider mines.

The Siege Tank concept art posted earlier in this thread is indeed what was used for the new model. It looks great, both undeployed and in siege form. The Siege Tank also fires faster than it did in Starcraft 1 (about twice a second), but does 20 damage instead of 30.

Ghosts can stealth, nuke, and call down drop-pods (lol warhammer). Each drop-pod has 5 Marines. They also have an assassination ability that instantly kills any infantry unit (guessing this will apply to Zealots, Templar, anything smaller than a Hydralisk). I did not notice if there was lockdown or not, but I think its gone.

Wraiths are back as an anti-air unit called the Predator. They can switch between a form that attacks air units and a form that intercepts incoming missiles and destroys them. When it transforms, the lasers switch positions. It is a three-pronged aircraft just like the Wraith, but cannot stealth.

Banshees can only attack ground and drop a salvo of missiles that do massive splash damage. They're basically flying, cloakable Reavers (without having to build up ammo). Two banshees can kill something like 5 marines each with a single salvo.

HUGE change to Terran add-ons: Add-ons now have functionalities for EVERY unit-producing building. The Physics Lab gives bonuses to any building attached to it whether its a Barracks, Factory, or Starport. You can construct a Spec Ops add-on with a Barracks, lift off the Barracks and replace it with a Factory, and then have different research options with the factory attached than you did with the Barracks. I saw one add-on that is a nuclear reactor or something like that which adds an extra production queue to a building.

Terrans can salvage their buildings, which deconstructs them over a short period of time and gives back 100% of the resources used to build them.

Viking - My favorite unit that I was able to play with. Goliaths are gone and Vikings are their replacements, but these things are amazing. They say "transform and roll out" as one of their attack responses and just kick ass. They fire with dual miniguns in ground-form and do considerable amounts of damage. It was just really nice to have such beefy looking units rolling along with Marines and Medics at Tier 1. They can only attack ground in Mech form and only air when transformed. Their air form attacks with a volley of two missiles that do decent damage, but air form is mainly used to transport them quickly behind enemy lines.

Cobra - The Cobra is an anti-armor unit. It fires a laser that gets a ridiculous amount of bonus damage (I think it was +25) versus heavily armored targets such as the Colossus, Tanks, and Thor. It sucks at killing anything else, though.

Vultures are gone, presumably replaced by the Cobra (even though the Cobra is anti-vehicle instead of anti-personnel).

Starport Add-On - I forgot the name but it allows the Starport to construct units while lifted off and moving.

Nomad - The new Science Vessel. It has EMP and is also a floating repair bay that can be set to auto-repair nearby units. It also looks incredibly retarded - its like bright yellow and just looks weird. I hope they change it and make it look like the Science Vessel or something.

Battlecruiser - I saw two upgrades available to Battlecruisers. Think of vehicle upgrades in Dawn Of War, which are optional and customizable. The Yamato Cannon is back, as well as Plasma Torpedoes. The Torpedos are a huge salvo of air-to-ground projectiles that completely mess up a targeted area with massive splash damage.

Thor - Thor is built by an SCV as if it were a building, but the SCV does not transform into it ( ). They move and turn incredibly slowly, and their main attack is a dual blast from their arm cannons. They have a special attack that uses 150 energy in which they dig into the ground (much like the artillery GDI Mech in C&C3) and extend the huge cannons on their shoulders, which then fire a salvo of shells and do loads of splash damage (yes Terrans seem to be big on splash damage in Starcraft 2).
